WAYBACK MACHINE
It is usually best to look forward. Sometimes it is ok to look back to
see how far you've come. The wayback machine has a record of past
versions of our website and I suppose [1] past versions of us. We're up
to hosting 37 organizations, It was 30 the last time I mentioned it.

BOOKS
Steve Ronan, one of the quiet competent people who moves the world
forward hooked us up with 43 useful books from OReilly.[2] They were
moving their office and needed to get rid of a bunch of good books.
Oddly enough since Laura is going to Eastern Europe next week, even the
Polish books will be useful

MATT (no work study)
Matt Ouellette didn't get work study for the fall. He has a scholarship
for being #2 in his high school graduating class and that pushed him out
of range.

He's still go bills to pay, If anyone knows of work, let him know.

RANDOM LINKS
I was looking for the good link [3] Fred posted from Joel a while back.
(The one every serious coder/designer should read) and I came across
another good one [4] by Joel which explains why the board was wise to
discourage my bonus scheme. In passing I came across an example of a
pretty clear spec [5] (and an rsync that takes the load off the server)
and a discussion from Harvard Bschool on differences in male and female
negotiating strengths. [6] I suspect my negotiating strength works
better with female triggers than male ones. The times I've done well,
I've reduced ambiguity and negotiated on behalf of others.

DRUPAL
The UML communications dept [7], phillipscommunitytv [8], and
teknowledgy [9] are all in various stages of getting Drupel running for
themselves.

Now I alternate between feeling guilty that we don't have a system wide
setup for people to use without hassle and nervous at the high
unlikelihood that people will keep up to date with security patches.

The long queued apache chrooting project will help of course...

UTEC
The contract calls for UTEC to pay a fine if they blow off a meeting and
for us not to get paid for a week if we don't put in 10 hours.

I've come close a couple times with the fine and a few times with the 10
hours. Tomorrow we have a meeting to see if the work Dave did last year
is what they're looking for.

FRANCO STILL DEAD.
I remember the old Saturday night live show would announce
"Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead", Until I learned
differently, I thought it was because they were happy that a notorious
fascist was no longer with us. Now I know differently [10]

Anyhow, SPAM is still under control (thanks John) and systems are still
monitored. (thanks Matt)

JOHN (vacation)
Saturday, John left for vacation in Kansas. He'll be gone until the
20th. We miss him already.

GYM
In week 4 we're still on track[*]. We're still going to the Gym. The
whole supporting each other thing is quite sweet. Picture Manny and I
puffing around the track as John trots slowly alongside whistling the
theme from Rocky. (really, no kidding)

[*] the inside air conditioned one at the rec center.

Tomorrow we start with the weights. Since Laura and John talked me into
buying new sneakers my feet don't hurt.

SLEEP
All this exercise is helping. I'm finding it hard to stay awake past
bedtime. Others have a little way to go yet. Getting to bed doesn't
count if you don't turn out the lights and go to sleep.
