EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: cool conference, UMass Lowell,
one week from Friday see:

EMOTIONAL BUT ACCURATE APPEAL

Penguin Day is facilitated by Allen Gunn, aka "Gunner". Gunner's affect
and presentation is very much like Henry Rollins's affect and presentation:

...I believe they share some values.

SLIGHTLY MORE DETAIL

Non technical folks in community tech have an unhappy tendency to say
"It's not about the technology" Usually this is bullshit. If it wasn't
for the tech, you wouldn't be reading this message.

For those of us who want to be shoe makers, The whine:

"I'm not a tech, I CAN'T tie my own shoes"

... sometimes gets a little tired.

However, for this conference, it probably isn't about the tech and
(sigh) this is a good thing.

The conference is about using Tech in general and Open Source Software
in particular to make the world a better place. The focus is "why" and
"what" not "how".

As much as I hate to admit it, you don't need to know how to tie your
own shoes to contribute to a discussion of the different merits of steel
tipped boots [1] and stilettos [2] for various purposes.
