This **very** short link, covers our clever development strategy http://www.uie.com/articles/fast_iterations/ Along with source code, We're going to put bugs/features on Launchpad.net: http://launchpad.net/mvhub ...Every month, we'll assign between 1 and n features or bugs to an active developer and associate them with a milestone. For example you can see what we did formally in June and released in July [*] https://launchpad.net/mvhub/trunk/2009-07 The "opportunity" [-] is that right now, there is a little spark of rebellion in cadre. Some of us want a bigger picture. As I understand the rebel reasoning, the current approach will lead us to a fragmented redesign and a more deliberative approach will lead to a more cohesive/integrated design. I'm hoping to the spark of rebellion into flame and either burn down my goofy plan or divert the flame to boiling tea water. In more detail: http://www.softwarereality.com/lifecycle/xp/safety_net.jsp Comments? [+] "RFC" means 'request for comment" [!] [*] Lots of stuff happened outside the tracking system. (sigh) [-] Positive, Vaseline on the teeth, smiling people say "opportunity" not "problem" or "pain in the ass" See: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080322111857AA1xrFF From dan at thecsl.org Sat Jul 25 16:54:20 2009 From: dan at thecsl.org (Dan MacNeil) Date: Sat, 25 Jul 2009 16:54:20 -0400 Subject: [Cadre-politics] grant status / schedule next week Message-ID: <4A6B70FC.7010104@thecsl.org> Tuesday, I'll be in Peabody working on a $75K per year for two years grant with our partners at http://nscap.org If we win the grant, our CSL piece will be $15K per year out of the grant to cover labor to improve MVHub, specifically to improve http://northshoreport.org usability and to improve the data entry interface to allow novice youth / first jobs people to add records. We'd be a contractor. As long as we provided the services we promised, we could spend the money on whatever we wanted. Off the top of my head, 10K would make a couple yacht payments for our executive director and 5K would make sure everyone else ahd beer & chapatis for lunch every day. A big chunk of Wednesday and possibly Thursday, I'll be working w/ our partners at http://ltc.org on a similar proposal, except we'd be improving usability and integrating http://mvhub.com with the free wifi network splash/login page/portal. The BTOP grant is a big federal mess, see: http://www.telecommunity.us/ Fortunately, we (us, LTC & NSCAP) will just be working with the zero divide foundation, who will be aggregating 50 programs from around the country. http://www.zerodivide.org/broadband_initiative Our application to partner with zero divide is due this thursday (07/30) and they'll let us by Tuesday (08/04) We're also planning to partner with Carol McDonough and Bob Forrant of UMass Lowell's Econonmic Dept and Center for Family, Work and Community, their BTOP grant is due 08/14, but that process isn't as clear yet. The grant form is pretty simple, complicated only slightly because our partners are cool, A fellow at zero divide likes me a bit, his parting words 11 years ago were "If every volunteer was like you, we'd be done by now." I'm hopefull, they'll pick us to partner with. I'm also pretty optimistic that zero divide will be funded, word is they're connected. It looks like they had a big part in forming the federal RFP see for example: http://www.ntia.doc.gov/broadbandgrants/comment.cfm?e=44A68B72-8B72-414B-AF9A-4258E0BB9286 Thanks to Gene Crick and Felicia Sullivan for turning us on to these opportunities. So my schedule next week is approximately: Monday all day Wednesay AM Thurs PM Fri: all day Lee, Sijing & other folks have keys. My cell is: 978-455-1885
