Hi Jodi,
There is an executive committee meeting Wednesday 6:30pm and the
question will come up:
What is the status of our application for bplan help?
Eric & I were thinking, (maybe you smelled the wood burning?)
1) We need sanity checking / auditing most.
2) Formatting & presentation help is nice plus.
The ***draft*** plan is
0) drop hosting / free up time and karma
1) sell ads
1a) sell sponsorships
3) increase viewers by increasing geographic reach
4) increase viewers by increasing demographic reach
5) make software / database more useful
6) profit
7) goto (1)
We have plan A & B
Plan A
1) seed funding: full-time sales leader
2) seed funding: software changes to handle 60-100x load
3) sponsorship pays: for software / data / sales maintenance
Plan B
1) no seed funding
2) much longer timeline
Assumptions to be tested are:
1) We're making ~$1 / day now w/ google ads
2) 168 people a day see our google ads
3) We're mostly Lowell based.
4) MA has 60 times as many people as Lowell
5) $60/day == $21,900 / yr
6) We can make a **lot** more with sponsorships than ads
7) We can show a lot more ads by getting people
who need services to view mvhub
8) Mostly non-profit folks use mvhub now
9) We can get people who need services to use mvhub directly
What we think we most need from Jericho road is something like
the management letter an auditor gives. "We believe this plan is
workable (or not)"
Info to gather:
1) How much total & calendar time and therefor money
does it take to add a territory to mvhub? (Eric)
2) The case to the IRS that ads/sponsorship are
part of our non-profit purposes not unrelated
business income. We pay taxes on unrelated
business income and lose 501c3 status if
more than 20% of our income is unrelated
to our non-profit purposes.
3) How much time we need for data maintenance once
the world is using mvhub (right now 2 hrs/ wk per
100,000 people serveed)
Right now, I'm pretty comfortable with James Griener (
http://thoughtsonsales.org ) coming on
our volunteer board and leading 2 bi-monthly sponsorship pitches
to banks, real estate agents and plumbers.
I've only 86.69% convinced him that he wants to do this. He"s
waiting to see if the board is behind this effort. He can't do it
alone.
I'm pretty sure the board is behind them getting a little
training / doing a little planning, having somebody else develop
sponsorship leads and making monthly or b-monthly sales calls.
We've had two meetings on this subject and one of our officers
has said something like "I want to be more involved this summer"
We (ok me) are still working to schedule a James / board get
together.
