CSL BOARD MEETING
JUNE 2, 2009
LTC CONFERENCE ROOM
Present were Dan McNeil, Karen Zgoda, Fred Martin and Mimi Parseghian
Minutes:
Fred asked that minutes from Executive Meetings be distributed. Karen
mentioned that Executive Meetings have been held regularly.
Action Items from last Meeting:
Dan sent link to current budget
VISTA Status Update
Dan informed us that we have successfully recruited 2 VISTA workers.
One for Marketing/Business and the other in Computer Support. They are
both scheduled to start later this summer. He also told us that he had a
high number of applicants and explained in detail the system he uses to
screen and finally select these candidates.
Karen reminded everyone that there will be a Sales Training Session for
Board members coordinated by Jericho Road on June 9 at LTC.
We discussed at length the issue of youth employment and the
relationship with the Career Center. It was agreed that at this time we
will not ask the Career Center to replace Mike ???l.
Karen reported that she was able to reach most Board members to get
their opinions on what they thought CSL goals should be. We discussed
the status of Board members. Dan distributed the list detailing the terms
of each board member. He informed us that George Joseph does not want to
serve again but is willing to help Dan with accounting issues. The slate
will be distributed by e-mail and we will vote for those members who are
up for re-election
We discussed the necessity of recruiting Board members. It was agreed
that we should all approach one individual and try to recruit them.
Grants:
We will apply to the Woman Working Wonders Fund for their annual grant
that is given to assist women in transition; and provide leadership
development in girls and women. After much discussion, we felt that the
current staff, which is mostly made up of foreign-born women with degrees,
lacking skills required to enter the business world, fit this description.
That will be our approach.
Mimi is to check to see if that is something this organization would be
interested in helping fund and Karen will prepare the necessary
documentation if we decide to go forward.
Dan reported that now that we have expanded to the North Shore, we have
an opportunity to expand to the Springfield area. He had made a proposal
to the interested group but we decided to have him review his figures and
present a more modest figure based on set up cost and yearly maintenance.
Financial Report:
Dan reported that the CDBG funds from the City have been received.
