Message-ID: <72ef860f0910021403p6a035c23wac630382e788d72f@mail.gmail.com> Team: We need a clear statement of which organizations are served by the CSL. I went to the home page, and while the mission and purpose are there, it does not say who exactly benefits from the CSL's work (that is, which organizations). - Then I clicked on About, and it still does not say. - Then I click on Customers, and it goes to a dead link ( http://thecsl.org/go/sales/sites/). So, while I have a pretty good sense of -generally- what the CSL does, I can't even name specific recipients of the CSL's work. I think it will be very important to have concrete details of who benefits from the CSL at the fundraiser. Thank you for following this up. I have a filter that sends CSL listserv traffic to a folder. I need to get back in the habit of checking that folder daily. I'll fix the links and create a description of who we serve today. Getting my invite list to Carolyn is the only other task ahead of this in the Queue. ######### The customers link isn't fixed, and there hasn't been any conversation on this topic. Dan? From dan at thecsl.org Mon Oct 12 14:07:21 2009 From: dan at thecsl.org (Dan MacNeil) Date: Mon, 12 Oct 2009 14:07:21 -0400 Subject: [CSL board] For tomorrow's call: non-mission $60/hr contract work. Message-ID: <4AD37059.4040702@thecsl.org> EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: 1) good way to make money 2) distraction from mission The boys & girls club really needs LAN/server support and is willing to pay for it. Reasonably: First year: 5,000 setup labor 1,000 materials subsequent years: 3000 labor 300 materials (anti-virus licenses, HD replacement, etc) This is about 1/2 to 2/3 of market rate. UPSIDE: This is about $60 / hr first year & $65/hr in future years. My best fundraising efforts have brought in about $50/hr The project is very well defined and very comfortably inside our (my) sys admin skill set. DOWNSIDE: The downside is that this project is outside our current mission. It doesn't use free software to connect people to the social services they need. Labor would have to be diverted from current projects. ...getting this done would involve one or some of the following: 1-2 month delay in reports northshore people want me taking pause in marathon training stopping donor cultivation not integrating w/ Octipi. [*] delaying package creation 1-2 months [*] I would not expect to delay the tea. The big danger is lack of progress on Octipi, which is software developed by Community Networks Corp for case management & used by all the CAPs in the state. Integration would mean that after entering client info in Octipi, case managers could push a button to reach out to mvhub software via web services and have a list of programs of use to their clients. Since Octipi is used by all the CAPs in MA, having a feature that only could be used if the CAP also used MVHub would be very useful. Another option would be for me to take on the work as a private individual. Bank of America isn't threatening to break my knees, but they do want their monthly pound of flesh. Me doing the work as a private person require watching some conflicts. There are some existing CSL facilities that would make the work easier. Resume attached. She's been helping us with the business plan. Her model is to read existing materials, talk to us and write stuff, which has moved us forward faster than waiting for Carolyn & I to write stuff. By presenting better goals, She's convinced me that "make more money" isn't the most marketable goal or even useful goal. A big part of our next board meeting will be to dicuss goals/objectives of the business plan --We'll have a 4 page document for your review this week. She will be at the 11/10 board meeting @ LTC 6:30pm She's considering applying to serve on our board. It would probably help make a good impression, if everyone took a bath and dug up a clean tee shirt before the meeting. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
